If you visit London Bridge Station on a Monday morning, you’ll see a sea of hurried commuters, each lost in their own world. Suited professionals, students, and workers of all kinds march forward with purpose, their faces tense, eyes glued to their phones or watches, minds already buried in the endless to-do lists awaiting them at the office.
And it seems as if none of them even notice how the morning light reflects on The towering Shard and how The Thames glistens in the distance.
This isn’t just a Monday morning thing though, it happens every day. It feels like we’re always running around, rushing to get somewhere, in a hurry to do something.
But do we ever reach?
Sure, we may reach our destination. But we never reach the end of all the work we need to do. We never reach the moment in which we would have done enough, achieved enough.
And the reason for that is that we are always fixated on the future; everything we engage in, we do so in order to achieve a certain result. Never even for a moment we stop to take in the profound beauty and simplicity that this present moment holds. Once we obtain the desired outcome, we set our sights on another, and another, and another.
Like hamsters on a wheel we keep on running, not realising that the happiness, success and fulfilment are awaiting for us here and now, and all we need to do is, step out of the wheel.
The problem is – we are not even aware of the wheel, everyone around us, is on it too. It’s today’s normal.. And we can only step out of the wheel if we become aware of it. The key to awareness is mindfulness.
Nevertheless, many react with disbelief, whenever I mention the numerous benefits that mindfulness can bring to their productivity. “I don’t have time to sit still, I’m too busy!” – they would say.
And whilst it is true, that doing a short 10-15 minutes in the morning, will add up to your morning routine, the benefits you will get throughout the rest of the day outweigh enormously the “inconvenience” of waking up a little earlier.
After numerous discussions on the topic, I decided to write this article and share:
6 Powerful Ways Mindfulness Can Make You More Productive
1. Mindfulness Helps You Focus Better
By practicing bringing your attention to the Present Moment, again and again, you train your mind to concentrate better. And needless to say, when you concentrate better, you can give your full attention to the problem at hand, rather than getting distracted with unrelated thoughts, emotions and activities.
2. Mindfulness Lowers Stress And Prevents Burnout
Being stressed on a regular basis significantly impacts your productivity.
Mindfulness has the ability to lower cortisol (the stress hormone) levels, which on the other hand makes you calmer and more peaceful.
3. Mindfulness Makes You Work Smarter Not Harderr
Regular practice of mindfulness helps you make better judgements when it comes to prioritising your tasks. It helps you see what’s truly important and what’s not. That’s when you can stop running, jump off the hamster wheel, and give your full attention to only what matters the most. Subsequently, by only working on the important tasks, you actually free up space and time for other stuff, such as spending time with friends and family, watching a good movie, or anything else that you desire.
4. Mindfulness Reduces Overthinking And Procrastination
Overthinking wastes energy and delays action. Mindfulness teaches you to acknowledge thoughts without getting stuck in them, so you can move forward instead of doubting yourself.
5. Mindfulness Increases Creativity And Problem-Solving
A clear present mind is more open to new ideas and solutions. Mindfulness helps you tap into your creative potential without being blocked by stress or self-doubt.
6. Mindfulness Boosts Energy And Motivation
Mindfulness breaks, such as deep breathing and meditation, recharge your brain, making you more energetic and motivated to tackle tasks.
Here you go girl.
I hope this article has clearly explained the benefits of mindfulness and inspired you to give it a try. Even small steps can make a big difference in your daily life, helping you feel more present, focused, and at peace.
Slow down and everything you are chasing will come around and catch you.
