Simple moments – ah, I wish we paid more attention to those in our daily lives.

But no — most of us overlook simplicity entirely. Today, life is all about complexity and sophistication. We drive electric cars, tackle demanding projects, and deliver polished presentations. And on top of it all, our faces are buried in glowing screens from morning to night — because, of course, we must stay connected, stay productive, and keep pushing ourselves to the limit.

But are we truly connected? And connected to what? Connected to who? We’ve lost the most basic connection – the one connection that matters the most – the connection with ourselves. And we try to replace it with social media, other people, food, alcohol. Yet, all of those can give us a short burst of happiness, not lasting peace. They offer a quick high – but it fades quickly, leaving us longing for something real and grounding.

As I slowly sip on my warm lemon water I remember my not so distant past. The time when I was completely engrossed in doing, chasing, achieving. And without a doubt I accomplished a lot – learnt English within 6 months, graduated good university in the UK, got a prestigious job as a Software Engineer, and I worked in the area for 12 years.

But even though, I got great paycheque and all the respect that came with the job, inside I felt empty.  My life cantered around anticipation for the weekend, for the next holiday, for the next paycheque. I dreaded work and all of the stress that came with it.

Today, after many years of striving — chasing success, reputation, and money — and decades spent trying to improve and prove myself, to live up to others’ expectations, I find myself in quiet amazement. A simple moment, like sipping warm lemon water, fills me with joy, grounds me, and reconnects me to the essence of who I truly am.

Unfortunately, we have never been taught to pay attention to the simple moments – not at home, not at school, nowhere.

So it’s up to us to wake up. It’s up to us to realise that simple joy that lives within each of us, now. Not when we achieve something, or become somebody, BUT NOW.

So I challenge you today to spend a moment with this prompt

What Simple Moment Today Made Me Feel Warm And Connected?

Perhaps it was a conversation with a friend, a nice cup of tea, or a delicious meal with your family…

The more we take notice of those simple yet powerful moments, the more joy and peace we cultivate within ourselves.

Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realise they were the big things.
